The fantastic sound of the MKH 8000 series can now be converted to digital directly at the microphone head, ensuring a natural sound without any loss of quality.
The compact digital module is simply screwed onto the microphone head in place of the XLR module, turning the audio signal of the MKH 8020 (omni-directional), MKH 8040 (cardioid), MKH 8050 (super-cardioid) , MKH 8060 (gun) and MKH 8070 (rifle) into a digital one. The new digital module ensures that the warm, natural, yet fantastically clear and powerful sound of the MKH 8000 series is maintained in full quality along the entire signal chain. In contrast to conventional digitization, which uses a separate analogue/digital converter at some stage in the chain, the Sennheiser MZD 8000 digital module eliminates cable losses and, most importantly, features a converter and surrounding circuitry that have been optimally matched to the microphone.
Like all signal-carrying components in the 8000 series, the module is designed with two channels and converts the microphone signal according to the AES 42 standard. The microphones can be synchronized by any digital system. In addition to the A/D converter (24-bit, sampling rate up to 192 kHz), the digital module contains a highly integrated DSP unit. With the aid of dedicated PC control software and an AES 42 interface, the microphone allows settings such as the low-cut filter and attenuation to be remote-controlled. The required phantom power for microphones is provided by the AES 42 input of the Sound Devices or DEva recorder. The SuperCMIT defines a new category of shotgun microphone, with directivity that goes beyond anything previously known. It offers the recording engineer entirely new possibilities.

For digital inputs that implement the AES 42-2006 standard,

new type of digital shotgun microphone with increased directivity, based on SCHOEPS' extremely successful analog model CMIT 5,

diffuse sound is suppressed to an extraordinary degree,

completely new operating principle with two transducers,

uses digital signal processing algorithms from ILLUSONIC (patent pending),

two-channel output, with SuperCMIT signal in channel 1 and (direct, single-transducer) CMIT signal in channel 2,

SCHOEPS sound quality: transparent sound.

The digital amplifier CMD 2 seamlessly extends the SCHOEPS ”Colette” modular microphone system. Instead of 48 Volt phantom powering, it operates with the standard digital phantom powering of an AES 42-type digital input. Sonically it is fully the equal of SCHOEPS' CMC-series analog microphones, but the internal A/D conversion eliminates analog interference and signal losses either in the cable or at the inputs of analog preamps and mixers.

The CMD 2 was nominated in 2005 for the ”mipa” (Musik messe International Press Award).

The Mini-DA42 serves for powering digital microphones (especially the SuperCMIT) and for converting their output signals to analog / AES 3.
It allows you to use digital microphones with devices which only offer analog or AES 3 inputs.

Inputs:

AES42, Mode 1 (XLR-3F, 110 Ohms, black label)

Outputs (available through included Sub-D breakout cable):

AES3 (XLR-3M, 110 Ohms, blue label)

2 × analog (XLR-3M, yellow and red label), balanced, referring to ground, maximum cable length: 300m

Indicators:

Green LED for power

red LED for "unlocked" (turns off when a digital microphone is connected and the circuitry of the Mini-DA42 locks on to that signal).

Power:

DC 12 - 18 V / 200 - 500 mA, available through included AC adapter (type designation: VMS-DCW) for 100 - 240 V, 50 / 60 Hz with HIROSE plug.

Operation is also possible with other AC adapter models or batteries / rechargeable batteries.
